Vision Statement
As a contemplative community of the san Diego
area, we desire to share the vision of the national office of Contemplative
Outreach, Ltd. by establishing a regional chapter. Contemplative Outreach,
Ltd. is an ecumenical network of prayer communities committed to the process and
transmission of Christian transformation. Centering Prayer is the method
by which this process of transformation is initiated and sustained. This
prayer opens us to the Presence and Action of Christ in the stillness of our
inmost being. It is the Presence and Action of the Living God in Christ
who empowers us to live the contemplative dimension of the Gospel in justice and
love in everyday life.
Mission Statement
As a regional chapter of the Contemplative
Outreach, Ltd., our primary mission is to introduce and coordinate efforts to
present the Christian contemplative tradition through the Centering Prayer
method and practice to persons seeking a deeper life of prayer; to provide a
support system capable of sustaining their commitment in order to live out the
contemplative dimension of the Gospel in justice and love in everyday life; and
to foster contemplative communities with a spirit of ecumenical outreach.
The Four Guidelines of the Centering
Prayer Method and Practice
1.
Choose
a sacred word as the symbol of your intention to consent to God’s
Presence and Action within.
2. Sitting
comfortably and with eyes closed, settle briefly and silently introduce
the sacred word as the symbol of your consent to God’s Presence and
Action within.
3.
When
you become aware of thoughts, return ever so gently to the sacred word.
4. At
the end of the prayer period, remain in silence with eyes closed for a
couple of minutes.
